Women and children, especially those living in rural areas, are disproportionately affected. Rural women can spend hours every day collecting and carting water, either from communal taps or directly from streams and rivers. Long cartage distances pose particular difficulties for elderly people and those with disabilities. Poor communities are often unable to afford the costs of maintaining pumps and bore holes, or lack the skills to do so.a) The general goal: To guarantee health cover for the entire population benefitting from the integrated development plan the FVF is carrying out in the villages of PEDAKAKANI MANDAL in Guntur district Specific goals: Short term: the digging of 10 wells and the installation of 10 hand water pumps for the drawing of drinking water.Medium term: To provide access to drinking water for rural communities by digging wells and installing hand pumping systems.Long term: To prevent and reduce diseases caused by the lack of drinking water in rural communities.
