Our research group with team head Dr. Suresh Bhalla, Associate Professor, at college IIT Delhi, India has designed, fabricated and tested components of a bamboo frame. We have designed and fabricated complete model of bamboo frame by assembling all the components. We had done lots of experimentations on the bamboo beams, columns and steel-bamboo composite connections. The experiment results were quite successful and encouraging. The sheds fabricated by this frame can be used for rehabilitation shelters. These can be constructed very quickly, easily and with very affordable and easily available materials. The materials used are bamboo, nuts-bolts and steel clamps. The structure can be disassembled and can be shifted to other place also. There is no need to build the structure on the disaster site but it can be constructed any where can be transported very easily being very light. These structures are very suitable for flood and earthquake prone areas being very light. And also these are already designed for wind loads, so there is no fear of shifting by wind. These structures are very flexible and during failure, will give enough time for the people to evacuate and will not fall on the people too. These structures suit too much to disaster prone areas as, they can be constructed in very less time, easily and with very less cost. Moreover, bamboo is an eco-friendly material and its use will lead to decrease in the pollution created by the manufacturing of cement and steel. The bamboo house model is ready to implement and further research is still going on to make more and more improvements. We will keep on working with high enthusiasm as much as our best.
